iPennyBid Gets a New Name Again

Updated: A reader just posted a very valuable piece of information, a traceroute for BidPax points to iPennyBid the same penny auction that we have received numerous complaints about.

tracerouteAnd here is a screenshot of BidPax sent in from a reader in New Zealand (Thanks!):bidpax penny auction

A few days ago we told you that penny auction iPennybid has changed sites and
names to BidVoo, well iPennyBid is now BidPax.
Here are a few of the recent comments we’ve received:

“sigh. maybe it was lack of sleep, but i fell prey to the bidpax hype via an ad on facebook – now after 20mins of googling (and $240 down the toilet), it’s time to go to bed…” -vbids
“BidVoo has now gone? www.BidPax.com is the new replacement?”-Kiwifan

“here is an interesting addition…
there is another site up called bidpax.com. I found it via facebook adds (strange?) never the less. i thought of trying it out and when i registered. the mail is as such.
——————————————————————————————-
From : info@bidpax.com
Thanks for registering on BidVoo.com
Here is a quick summary of how it Works
Unlike conventional auctions, members pay each time a bid is placed. This means the final selling price can be up to 99% off the recommended retail price.
Each time a bid is placed, the price increases by 1 penny and the time extends by 10 seconds. The winner is the final bidder when the timer reaches 00:00:00.
To start with, register on our website completely free of charge and take a look around. If you see an auction you’d like to participate on, simply load your account with “bids” by purchasing a bid package. A bid package will give you the right to start bidding on any of our auctions. Remember, you use these bids to participate on auctions on BidVoo.com. Buying a bid package does not mean you are are an automatic winner, you utilise each bid to try to outbid any other interested bidders!

    Hello,

Yes. We changed our name. This was a company decision and we have nothing to hide.

Our server is located in Singapore due to it being a central location and because of our presence in Asia.

We have our domain registered through Zentek International because they are a local business here in Hong Kong and serve our needs accordingly.

The comments you receive here are simply bad ones, because losers on the site are frustrated that a minimum bid pack didn't win them an iPhone. So they come here to vent their frustration. Which is understandable but at the same time unfair to us.

You cannot see the website because we haven't released the site in the US.

Please feel free to continue trying to damage our reputation even though we are completely legitimate.

Bidpax website is exactly same as Bidvoo – except for 2 changes. Bidvoo mentioned (about us) that it's based in LA and Bidpax says it's in Hongkong. All references to Bidvoo has been search/replaced with Bidpax – nothing else.

If you created your userID on bidvoo earlier. – it'd work on Bidpax as well. Bidpax has the same set of bidders, products everything. I live in India and when you type bidvoo – earlier it used to takeyou to in.bidvoo.com and now it takes you to bidpax.com.

If I try to access Bidvoo.com via a server in US – it takes me to http://us.bidvoo.com/comingsoon and says the following

    ——————————————

    Welcome to BidVoo.com!

BidVoo offers bargain auctions of new brand products. Save up to 98% on new LCD-TVs or up to 95% on Game Consoles. Bid and Win high quality products.

BidVoo will be launching in your country soon please check back again.

If you believe this is in error, and you are not a resident of the USA or the UK, please email us so we can grant your account access to the site.

    Email address: info@bidvoo.com

    —————————-

If I try to access bidpax.com via a server in US – it gives a page with google public service ad on it!

Does it mean that they have stopped the site in US – may be due to complaints and they are out to milk the customers in other countries – because there aren't too many complaints yet!

I can not attach screen shot of Bidpax – but if you were to look at it – it's exactly same as Bidvoo – except for the name/logo!!

This bidpax surely looks like a scam. I usually do a thorough check at multiple sources before I hit that pay button and I found a lot of discrepancies with this site. When an entity does business at such level of deliverables, then you got to check their infrastructure investment and the balloon will burst!

BidPax: We find it odd that if you surely have nothing to hide why then have you moved from being in Canada to California to Hong Kong?

We are not intending on damaging anyones reputation if they are legitimate, BidPax included we have clearly told you that.

Some questions can be raised from this.

As auctionwatcher stated, why keep moving location?

Why change your name many times in a short period of time? And why use different registrant details each time?

Why were your customers not informed of the change? No emails have been received or any notices placed on the site. Surely this would be the minimum for notification by any legitimate company?

    Reply
  • Kiwifan October 10, 2009, 12:33 pm

    One more question.

Why state that you have not released the site to the US as of yet?

Surely iPennyBid was already operating there?

What was the business strategy for pulling out of the US and then release there again?

Does not make any sense to me.

And for the record I never get frustrated losing on auction sites.

I take them for what they are and set myself limits.

Any company that takes money from customers needs to be accountable.

Flying around the world every other day and setting up new offices does not make that very accountable to me.

Asking for scans of users drivers licenses/identification cards along with credit card numbers and no items is a red flag to us.

    Reply
  • BidPax October 10, 2009, 3:45 pm

“auctionwatcher” – We do not ask for scans of users drivers licenses without good cause. If they choose to pay for their bids using an unconfirmed PayPal address/account we have no option but to ask them to prove who they are. We cannot afford to send out items only to have a chargeback due to a stolen credit card, which has happened to us frequently.

And we DO NOT ask for credit card numbers, ever. At what point did you ever obtain this false information?

We ask customers to block out driver license numbers and we ask for a utility bill in most circumstances, which is completely acceptable.

Our central office is not based in Hong Kong, our central office is based in Canada. Hong Kong is the base of our Asia Pacific operations which I am currently managing.

The name change was due to “BIDPAX.COM” being a more globally recognised domain name which is easier to remember, just how a certain auction site changed their name to ‘Swoopo’.

It seems everything we do we can not please you here at pennyauctionwatch.com

We noticed you spoke to a previous winner in Australia who was handled by us in the most professional manner. We attempted to ship her the iPod Touch she had won, but it was out of stock from our regular Australian merchant, so we authorized her a cash payment of the item value.

  • kiwifan October 10, 2009, 7:15 pm

What about your California office? Who is managing that?

Canada, California and now Hong Kong. That would make you bigger than Swoopo?

A better globally recognized name would be “TAMPAX.COM” or has that domain name gone yet?

Tested on bidpax juz now to reconfirm all my doubts. Last night was looking at the bid of sony PS 3 silm console..the bid ended at juz $0.74..the next day i use a bidbuddy to bid for the same console (PS3). used up 261 bids and in the end still never get the item. and i start using the bid buddy when the price reach $7.00. in the end the price shoot up to more than $12..

another funny thing is that i use the contact us button to say that they are a scam site..the nxt monment i logged in they have 1 more testimonial option to show customers satisfaction for getting the price at a low from india,singapore,hongkong..etc

those who still wanna try can do so but don't say you are not warned..

If you think you have been scammed then complain to whoever processed your payment.

Do you think it is a scam?

    Ben,

It is the same site with a different name!

    Everyone,

This website and all sites of the same nature should be audited.

Maybe a central site that gives a seal of approval?

You register on a site and your details are sent (With your approval) to the independent site.

Your details, email address, username, site registered upon are stored.

This would create a register of real users and easily be checked for authenticity.

Not a solution, but an idea?

Its quite funny really. Because.. BidRay quote PriceWaterhouse as auditors in their forum.

I live about 3 miles from PriceWaterhouse.

Now, they ARE big players.. I mean, they won't even touch you UNLESS you have a turnover of at least 5 million and you can spend loads on them in return.

If Bidray can supply me with a name or even better.. Their specific auditor.. I will quite happily arrange to meet him/her.

Now that would be an intersting convo.

    Hi guys!

Um, yeah, so like a total mug I not only registered for Bidpax.com, I also shelled out almost $200 for their 'bargain' package of 240 bids… oops. Guess I just got caught up in the thought of winning with my infallible strategy – thank God I didn't follow through and buy bids for a second account on my girlfriend's laptop as I was going to!

So, this being the case, and no bids having yet been placed by me, what do you think the odds are of me getting my money back? I paid by my visa card, are they likely to look into it? The site also states that you can pay by Paypal… has anyone done this? Surely Paypal would kick Bidpax's ass if they had a bunch of complaints?? Although sadly my credit card payment was processed by a company called 'PLIMUS' which could just be another shell company run by Bidpax…

Any advice would be much appreciated!

    Thanks guys!

Bidpax.com is definitely fraud. They say they use DHL and Fedex to deliver their bulky items like (fridge & flat screen TV). I called DHL, DHL do not handle bulky items like fridge or flat screen TV. Fedex do but they do not know any customer who constantly use them to deliver bulky items like fridge or flat screen TV. Not in Malaysia, not in Asia region!!!

Bidpax is a fraud case. CIMB Bank has been notified and American Express Australia has been notified.

I found it strange watching these bids that the same users over and over (across the entire list of auctions) continue to bid … bid .. .bid and then a random user whos name hasnt been regularly bidding bids… and these others stop, then they dissapear and stop bidding all together.. I just saw a 46"LED tv go for like 2$… someones getting paid to sit then and bid… keep it going, or win it to avoid paying out to legit users.

    $144 down the drain 😮

    Hi guys,

Thanks alot for having this info on this website…

    Just wanted you to know….

If you have signed up with them… you gave them your email…

    If your email is sav18@watever.com

and you gave them that… then…. they have your email

And if you used your password which is Iamsooo..messedupif..its..exactlywhatIuseformyemail

    then

they have your user name and your password for your email….

If that's true.. they will know what you are subscribed for…. which means they can go in ur email and know wat emails you get and go to Zedge.com as an example cos u subscribed there and use your username and reset your password…. and then change your settings or know what cellphone you use…. this is just a example… what if they found out ur username for your bank and tried your password there… and if it worked…. wow….. they made all the money… so go and change your passwords and if allowed your usernames also… I already did… haha.

Thats how scams work… in a much better way… so don't be a fool. If you used your creditcard they would be the ones paying the price… if its your debit – you will…

If you are lucky…. or if you really care… call or report this site to your bank mainly… and your creditcard bank also…. and to the sites they say you saw their adds on so that people's lives can be made… in a good way…

    God Bless you all….

    Hello,

I was on facebook when i saw ads by Bidpax.com and got attracted to it. I bought the 240 bids pack for around $100. And, started bidding for Apple Macbook Pro.

The auction continued for over 24 hours. And, was surprisingly won by a Bidder who hardly submitted any bids.

Moreover, i noticed while i was bidding on macbook pro, the all other less popular items keep ending.

I suspect they are definitely using Bots to bid. After i lost about $100 + close to 12-15 hours. I feel so stupid and sad.

There are tons of things we can do to stop this fraud site:

    1) Report this site to their domain registrar.

    2) Report this site to their hosting company.

    3) Report this site to Plimus (assuming – its not a bidpax co.)

    4) Report this site to Paypal.com

    5) This would be the bigger one. Report them on Facebook, Google and Myspace. These three places are there hunting ground from where they hunt innocent people.

I believe if we all make complaints. These other third-party companies shall definitely take some action.

    Sincerely,

    Imran Qureshi

Actually i joined indonesian version of low-price-auction-site and made bids there. The site is swinde.com.

My question is have you report the site to domain company, hosting company, plimus, paypal, facebook, google, & my space? because if the site's really an annoying-scam-mother****er you should report them as quick as you can if there are enough proofs and evidences, aren't they?

A few options would be reporting BidPax/iPennyBid/BidVoo to the The FBI's Complaint Center (IC3), econsumer.gov, your Attorney General, and the FTC Complaint Assistant (Federal Trade Commission Bureau of Consumer Protection). Also, report the ads to Google Adsense, as well as Facebook, Myspace-wherever else you see the ads.

It looks like they've set themselves up well enough that we cannot contact them, report them also to their web host (Looks like the server is hosted in Singapore, we told you guys this earlier in our iPennyBid posts that their offshore hosting would be an issue and it does raise a huge red flag. We could compile all of the information we have, all of you affected and get a class action or representative action lawsuit going if this is indeed a problem. It's very worrisome that they also obtain ID photos of purchasers. Please when you report this information you may want to direct the agency you are reporting this to all of the feedback that has been received here on PAW and if they would like to verify IP addresses and get in touch with others please have them contact us. Thanks

"You can only book one BidBuddy at a time. As soon as the first BidBuddy is no longer active, you can book the next BidBuddy"

Seems like the link doesn't show it. do you have a snapshot of the above text? they might have changed it as soon as they saw your post.

I think that this help article is referring to a specific auction. Users are able to place bid buddies on more than one auction, but can only place one bid buddy at a time on a specific auction.

i would really appreciate if people who actually won show screenshots of it.

besides that i see too many biddings going on, each bid costs about 40 Cents and the total bid that u get is around 1k. i dont believe that people would spend 100-200 bids on a specific item just to have it.

either these guys are shopkeepers who just want to buy stuff from here and use it in their shops(this is totally pathetic and unethical). or there is a scam going on. what i was shocked to see is some of the items that were going on for. for instance a DLSR Camera went for $3.62 whereas another DLSR Camera which almost ended at the same time(and i wasnt bidding in that) ended in $1.50, now is that coincidence or what i dont know but i sure do know that i need serious proof before i really invest again. i dont want to be hanging around wasting money and getting nothing in return.

@Zepanhiah – Can you give me contact information on CASE Singapore? I would like to file a complaint too.

My story is, I found the ads in facebook, I google "bidpax.com review" and first pages are about alexa and site accounting crap which made me think this site doesn't have much complain.

so, I register, paided for about 4,000 baht for 200 bids. Start bidding and suddenly, the guy how just bid first time won. And his username is 1Time too.

I lost about 120 bids in that particular item.

Being pissed and not really researching again, I bought 1000 bids for 17,000 baht (~ 500 USD)… and start bidding on samsung 32in LED TV again. It goes on and on and suddenly another user who bid for 1st time won again (as there are time you wait for a while before you bid again as so many of bidder are bidding). But once I stop, everyone else stop and this one time bidder won!

Now, I knew I got cheated. So, I did quite a few survey. I will only show you 2 person who won the auction I was actively bidding/monitoring(stoping for a while and checking who is my real competitor).

I found 4 auctions won by 1Time so far (there are more, I just haven't got time/patience to check).

    see for yourself.

    http://bidpax.com/auctions/view/2046 http://bidpax.com/auctions/view/2148 http://bidpax.com/auctions/view/2149 http://bidpax.com/auctions/view/2359

    this is just one user.

I have a list of users who won 2-4 auctions, (from my 260 auction check).

So, after doing all the research, I have a feeling how they work. They probably got all Chinese boiler room with 10 computers or so actively bidding everywhere with unlimited bids in their account. Real user will never stand a chance against their boiler bid agents who will bid and bid. So, when customer stop bidding, they stop too and won the item.

When that bid agent account has won for 3-4 items, they probably change to new account. Thats the reason I couldn't find any account won for more than 4 items.

I am trying to contact Singaporean police and Thai HighTechCyberCrime . If anyone got any direction on email or whatever address I can contact to stop them, please leave a message in my blog.

I don’t see how anyone can expect to buy an up to date expensive digital camera for as little as say $10 something

Beware the above site that was called bidpax.com and ipennybid before that is now called icebidz.com. Please for your own safety and for keeping your money in your own pocket without getting ripped off, do not use this site.
