BidRodeo.com’s one year anniversary is almost here, AMPP LLC became an New Jersey LLC on April 7th, 2009. BidRodeo.com, operated by AMPP LLC, launched its first auction on June 7th of 2009.  Read our interview with BidRodeo’s Krystian Cybulski to learn more about BidRodeo.com.

BidRodeo has been running auctions for almost 1 year now, what got you started?

The first penny auction site we hear of was actually in Poland, and that is where we got the idea from. We found the model quite interesting and thought that the market was quite fresh, since we have not heard of this before in the US. After a bit of research we realized that there are not that many honest and well-run penny auction sites, and decided to build one ourselves.

Is there a story behind the Bidrodeo.com name/theme?

We got excited about the concept and the image of an auction like a bucking bronco, with the bidders trying to stay on the longest came to mind. The name captures the excitement of a penny auction.
What have the challenges been along the way?

As with any business, there were many. It was hard building a system which is fast, reliable, and does the job well. Once we were happy with that, we had to deal with mailcious users and DDoS attacks against our servers. In the end, it is an ongoing challenge to explain BidRodeo to its users, address any concerns people may have, and dispel misconceptions.

What are your successes?

It is always nice to hear positive things from our users. Using that as a meter stick, I would have to say that we have done a good job with making sure that all of our user’s concerns are addressed quickly and effectively. We often get nice feedback from users that we treat them well.

What makes BidRodeo.com unique?

We really strive to run a fair penny auction site and treat our users as well as possible. We ship quickly, answers all emails, and keep the auctions running smoothly. When problems arise, we address them head on. From what we hear from our users, this is not the experience they have had in other places.

Can you explain how your auctions work?:

Sure. At BidRodeo, we run standard penny auctions. Each auction starts with a certain amount of time left on the clock – usually 48 hours. The clock counts down one second at a time. A user can purchase bids for as low as $0.68 to bid on these auctions. When a user places a bid on an auction, the auction is extended by15 seconds, a penny is added to the current auction price and the user becomes the top bidder. Should the timer count down to 0 without anyone else placing a bid, this user will win this auction and be able to buy it for the price she bid on. If another user bids, the same thing happens, and the latest bidder becomes the top bidder.
The auctions are very exciting and watching them can be a lot of fun. The winner of the auction often gets a great deal. Of course, it is important to bid smartly, as for any one auction there is only one winner.

What are the timer increments between bids and does this vary by auction?

The timer increases by 15 seconds on all auctions at this time.

How many items/ and what type of items  do you have per day/month?

BidRodeo runs over 300 auctions each month. We vary auctions all the time but try to have netbooks and giftcards every day. In addition, you will find video game consoles, iPods, GPS receivers, home appliances and more.

Do your auctions run on a schedule?

We schedule auctions ahead of time. You can easily see the upcoming auctions on BidRodeo. Once an auction timer starts, we do not touch the auction. However, once in a while we may add additional new auctions with less than 48 hours.

What are your win limits, user registration limits?

There are a few limits on BidRodeo which are meant to keep things balanced. First, only one person may have one BidRodeo account. If we find that a person uses more than one account, they will have the accounts canceled and will be banned. Secondly, we have a two auction win limit per week. This is to make sure that any one person does not win too many auctions. Finally, we do offer rookie auctions, which are auctions on which only people who have never one can bid. These allow a new user to now have to worry about bidding against “power bidders” when they first join.
