I just came across an interesting article on Forbes regarding US Mint’s gold $1 coins and the “travel hacking cartel” – travelhackers.com, who have been buying the $1 coins with frequent flier cards, cashing them in at the bank to pay bills and then racking up frequent flier miles in the process.
From the article, “Mint caught on when some customers started buying hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of free coins, so it has since limited purchases to $1,000 every ten days.”
It’s not illegal, but it’s certainly sneaky.
Anyway, I found it pretty ironic how a few people are posting comments to the article, stating that they’ve won items on penny auctions, yet the link to the penny auction that they share is a domain they bought to mask their affiliate links for both GrabSwag.com and BiggerBidder.com.
