Penny Auction Watch Victim of DDoS Attack, Again!

Nearing the anniversary of our first DDoS attack, Penny Auction Watch was the victim of a Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attack again today. Thankfully this time around we were able to get the site back quicker than we were last year as back in March of 2011 we were down over  2 days.

Recently, following news of the website MegaUpload being shut down websites of the Justice Department, Universal Music, the Recording Industry Association of America, the Copyright Department, BMI, and the FBI were all subjects of a DDoS attack.

In the past penny auction sites have also been attacked.

“DDoS is to the Internet what the Billy club is to gang warfare: simple, cheap, unsophisticated and effective,” said Rob Rachwald, Director of Security Strategy at Imperva to Security Week.

What is a Denial of Service Attack?

“In a denial-of-service (DoS) attack, an attacker attempts to prevent legitimate users from accessing information or services. So in this case an attacker targeted PennyAuctionWatch.com specifically.

It goes without saying… The penny auction industry is rife with malicious activity.
