Perhaps the writing has been long posted on the wall…. penny auctions are just not what they used to be. They’re not as popular, not as prevalent, and well, don’t really seem to be going anywhere. I miss the days when penny auctions were fun, action packed, and plenty… and, being a female, I miss the days when we could score deals on designer handbags…
We’re talking deals on real designer bags like Coach, Prada, Michael Kors, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, yes – I was able to win all of the above from a variety of sites.
PennyPurses was the very first penny auction site to specialize in designer handbag penny auctions with their largest selection of items being Coach handbags… They launched back in 2009, the same time we began bidding and watching penny auctions. Then they went down and came back up in 2010.
Over the past few months we observed their auctions ending for literally pennies – just a few bids, users were scoring great deals. Now the site doesn’t load and e-mails bounce back as undeliverable. What happened to PennyPurses? Perhaps Chris will read this and give us an update, but so far we haven’t been able to reach them to find out what’s going on.
As with all hot trends, especially questionable/skeptical ones, they come and go… If penny auctions don’t make a comeback, what do you see as the next big thing?

I was wondering this as well! I won several purses from that site when it had launched. It was a ton of fun, but there were some women who would just have dozens of credits and always won the bags. These repeat winners and that’s what ruined it for me. They had more money to throw down, so I often wondered why they didn’t just go out and buy the bags themselves. I think the site lost intrigue because most people eventually realized they’re not going to win. And by the time they walked away from the site, the repeat winners lost interest because their competition left.
