Kate, rockybiduser gave some great theories as to why people overpaid. Another reason could be that they won some free bids when then won a previous auction so they didn't really pay what you think they paid (read our How it Works and Bids Back policy). With all those ideas being said, they are just theories as we don't know what each individual's strategy is.
Unlike most other penny auction sites, BidBlink shows you exactly how many bids it took to win. This same type of activity occurs on most, if not all, penny auction sites. The difference being that BidBlink shows you. In addition, most auctions don't end like this. In fact, I could probably show you 20 auctions that end quickly (5 auctions that end with less than $0.50 in bids) to every 1 auction you find where someone overpays. In fact, I'm probably being conservative. However, people don't usually comment on those deals or research how this is possible.
I will give some advice that applies to all penny auction sites and not just BidBlink:
Don't bid against people like that. This is exactly what they want to do: scare you off so they can win the next auction with very low bids. If you aren't up to calling their bluff, don't bid against people like that. These people know what they are doing (well, not all the time). Always have a predetermined limit and stick to it. Don't let emotions affect your strategy. I would never recommend just going to a penny auction site and just blindly bidding. I encourage you to learn the other bidders tactics and observe how a given site functions.
With all that being said, good luck!
Regards,
Ryan
