I tried emailing BidBlink about the BidBlink Cards that they offered...I was one of the first to purchase one of them, still have not received the card.

Classified, I bought one the other day. I just received an e-mail with an attachment that has the code to activate it. Subjects was "Here's your BidBlink Holiday Gift Card!‏" If you haven't checked your e-mails from back when your bought it might want to check. Good luck.

I received mine as an e-mail as well. Check your e-mail I'm guessing the card may have gone into a spam folder or something if you haven't received it.

If I remember correctly the card can't actually be used until after Dec 25th unless they changed that.

    Default BidBlink Holiday Gift Cards

If anyone has not received their BidBlink Holiday Gift Card yet, please email us at support at bidblink.com.

The most common reason that people don't receive the gift card is that people tend to use multiple email addresses (an email for personal use, penny auction use, etc) and they don't check the email address they used on BidBlink. The next most common cause is all emails we send to them get stuck in Spam. This can be remedied by adding our support email address to your trusted list.

In any event, if you send us an email we will be able to get you taken care of.

    Thanks,
    Ryan

This is a great site with kool concept.Even I was thinking why people do that.AFter much thought I found couple of reason

1.Emotion: Sometime people pays the item cost and still the auction continues and they found that even after spending $50 they are not able to get the card where as another person jumps in with 2 bid and tries to win.At that point they want to teach that guy a lesson and go over board with the hope that they will get enough bid back to cover their loss which usually do not happen.
2.Strategy: If you notice there are some people who does that repeatedly which convey a message that "if you want to bid against me you have to pay retail , so please go check out other bid where you can make a profit"

    3. moron: There are several people who overbid and still lost the auction .They come with a bid buckets and tries to dump other party and lot of the time it does not happen.

There may be several other reason too but I can think of these three. It has been month that I played there as I was busy trying some new sites.

Kate, rockybiduser gave some great theories as to why people overpaid. Another reason could be that they won some free bids when then won a previous auction so they didn't really pay what you think they paid (read our How it Works and Bids Back policy). With all those ideas being said, they are just theories as we don't know what each individual's strategy is.

Unlike most other penny auction sites, BidBlink shows you exactly how many bids it took to win. This same type of activity occurs on most, if not all, penny auction sites. The difference being that BidBlink shows you. In addition, most auctions don't end like this. In fact, I could probably show you 20 auctions that end quickly (5 auctions that end with less than $0.50 in bids) to every 1 auction you find where someone overpays. In fact, I'm probably being conservative. However, people don't usually comment on those deals or research how this is possible.

I will give some advice that applies to all penny auction sites and not just BidBlink:
Don't bid against people like that. This is exactly what they want to do: scare you off so they can win the next auction with very low bids. If you aren't up to calling their bluff, don't bid against people like that. These people know what they are doing (well, not all the time). Always have a predetermined limit and stick to it. Don't let emotions affect your strategy. I would never recommend just going to a penny auction site and just blindly bidding. I encourage you to learn the other bidders tactics and observe how a given site functions.

With all that being said, good luck!

I can attest to that personally. I have had some amazing deals there. This is by far my favorite place. Ryan gave some excellent advice. Thank you!!

I saw those same auctions Kate and was amazed but it does do one thing: I will not bid against those players.

I definetly understand. I am an active bidder and have won quite a few auctions. I have just made some observations recently about bidders that go way overboard and it just makes me scratch my head and wonder why. I for sure don't bid against people like that... which I guess is a positive for people who bid crazy like that... less people bidding against them in the future. I wasn't trying to insult the site or say no good deals can be found there because I have had a ton of them! I love the site and will continue to bid there.... and the customer service is great and shipping is speedy... one of the best sites around for sure.

There is another user on the site who has been a member for about a month now probably and every auction they have won, except about 3, they have used over 2000 bids on to win.... and I know atleast 3 or 4 of those they used 6000+ bids. Amazing.

Default Don't know how many bids used

I just started using the site and last nite I was bidding on a 10.00 Amazon card. I kept looking back to my account to see how many bids I had used but it didn't show as many as I knew it had to be and at that point I knew I needed to win to get my bids back. I gave up after 2 1/2 hours. I couldn't belive the number of bids I had used Needless to say I used the buy now option but lost way to many bids. The thing I finally realized is the autobidders were hitting when I was and there are a ton of those. I sent an email right away and am hoping they help me out with this because as great as it sounds my experience was absolutely messed up.

if i only bid on one auction at a time, i make a note to see how many bids i have left at the start of auction (on the right side of the screen, somewhere by where it tells you how much bid packs are) and every time u place a bid that number is updated. And by doing that subtraction i figure out how many bids i spent on that auction.

If you are bidding on multiple auctions, its harder to figure out... :/

I think 11 times the retail value of an item is the most I have ever seen on an auction (was for a $50 walmart GC):

CLOSED won with 7567 bids and saved 0%
    Bids placed (7567): $756.70* Price: $0.00
    Bids Back (1833): -$183.30
    Total: $573.40
    Savings: $0.00

I am somewhat of a newbie, only started bidding on BidBlink in December, but I too have to laugh at some of the ending bids. I think alot of times people don't count/realize how many bids they have used. Ever notice that when an auction goes into negative everyone jumps in? For the person who already has 100+ bids in, they don't want to back down. They see those negative bids and think they are going to make up what they paid out but are not factoring in that for every bid they are getting back, they are generally paying out three.
On Friday or Saturday night, someone was bidding on a $100 Southwest card and paid over $400.00, it might have been close to $500. I was laughing to myself, thinking they could have saved their bids and still bought a round trip ticket for what they paid out in bids.
And I agree, Kate. There are a ton of new people and they do not back down. It seems alot of them don't care if they get a great deal or not, as long as they are winning. Great for BidBlink but bad for the conservative bidder.

Yes and that same bidder tlflowers then spent $98 on a $50 home depot card. On the Southwest card, tlfowers spent $422.20 on a $100 gift card. This is shady as hell that someone would do that twice. Bidblink please respond. Why would any of us want to ever bid on any of your auctions if we go back and see someone CONSISTENTLY bidding twice what an item is worth???

If this dude is for real and trying to intimidate, congrats due, you're out almost $400. All you taught us is you're a moron.

I think you need not worry. That guy is definitely trying to intimidate other but he is forgetting the facts that due to buy now option all except him getting a good deal. Its that bidder's strategy that all will avoid him soon so that he can walk away with a good deal. What he is forgetting that he is loosing money also one of his win limit is filled. So every week he can do it three time only and burned himself out.So why to worry. He will stop doing this after getting burned for a month or so.Other bidder has nothing to loose .

There is one bidder, who shall remain nameless but if you are an avid watcher of BidBlink you will know who I am talking about. This person spends close to 5000 bids on any given week and most of the time pays an outrageous amount for anything they bid on.
We're not destitute here, but I could NEVER pay for that many bids during a month. For crying out loud, that's almost $2000.00!
Personally, I think the person has a gambling problem.

yeah i wouldn't worry... there are several people like that, who will overbid and once they do it enough... people do watch out for these guys (see the recent ipod nano auction) i have won a lot of things there, some items for just pennies... and never had a single problem.

    Default Overbidding & other things

I have overbid once or twice on Bidblink, but not grievously so. And I generally quit when I have spent enough bids so I don't have to pay additional money past shipping for something. But I think people do it just to intimidate, so people will not bid against them at all & they will get future items very, very cheaply.

I really like that Bidblink lets you know how many bids a given auction cost! Other sites, of course, do not do this, so I often wonder what something REALLY cost!

On the whole, I have been really happy with Bidblink. The only real issues I have are 1) the amount I pay in shipping to have something e-mailed to me; and 2) the fact that they have been growing so much but have not added more auctions. I'd sure like to see some more! ;)

I didn't look in until the auction was in the low negatives either.
I'll tell you this much, the runner up won 40 bids earlier in the night with 4 bids. So if you want to look at the bright side, he bid $3.60 cents less of his own money.

There's becoming too many of these crazy people per the amount of auctions each week. These guys will end up being the death of the site.
