Angel (and others) -- need your guidance...I totally agree that win limits are necessary. And, honestly, while I am happy for fortime, I am also super frustrated right now. So, what is the best way to put the limits in place? Should it be by week (without regard to the individual winner) or by bidder? I think our program is set up to track a bidder as follows: JoeUser wins on Monday; our win limit is set at 4 per 7 day period; JoeUser wins again on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday; JoeUser can't win again until Monday). Is that how other auctions work? If not, give me your proposals and I will try to make it happen. Right now, I am thinking 4 per bidder per 7 day period.

I think for a site with only one auction per day you are being very generous if you allow 4 wins per 7 day period. You could potentianlly still have one user winning the majority of your auctions every week. If you are not doing auctions on the weekend and you're only planning on 5 auctions per week then definitely not 4! Pennypurses has at least 2 auctions per day, with 5 auctions per day 3 days a week and 2 on the other 4 days and their win limit is 3 wins per 7 days. So if you did 2 wins per week with 5 or even 7 auctions per week...thats what I would do. No more than 2 per week and if you're not doing auctions on the weekend and are only going to have 5 auctions per week then I would suggest even 1 win per weeK! And Angel is right, if you don't get win limits in place soon you will lose out on new/renew bidders.

I wish people would just limit themselves....my daughter found PP when they had only sold 2 purses, I think she won the 3rd one they ever sold...anyway. We sat there and watched auctions end uncontested of things that we liked or could honestly have used the money made by flipping it on ebay but we didn't want to be hogs so we'd let someone else win if we didn't genuinely love what was being sold...and even if we did love it we'd let someone else have it because we'd just won the last one. Of course I was very naive to penny auctions and the way people use them to make money...pp was the first time I'd ever heard of such a thing as penny auctions and I thought they invented it LOL had no idea there was this whole penny auction world out there. I love getting a deal and even if I had unlimited money for bids I just wouldn't feel good about myself if I bulldoze over people and act like a greedy fool. I feel bad when I see people lose big on these things, I thought about starting a penny auction myself but I don't think I could do it, I'd be like you and give away half the money to charity or give some poor user who used 1000 bids trying to beat a btw their bids back. I'd never be able to make any money on something like this.

Thanks so much for the advice. We will definitely be doing auctions on the weekends - we just haven't posted what they are yet. We will do that soon. Saturday will be 1 auction and Sunday will always be 2 auctions - one is a "second chance" auction featuring an item that sold that week and the auction is for beginners only. So, that is 8 auctions per week. I thought 4 out of 8 was fair for now, but will definitely consider your comments.

Also, if our user base grows, so will our auctions per day. I would LOVE to be like PP and auction off 5 bags in a nite - that is my dream!!! It took them some time to get there, though. And, remember, they never had win limits in the beginning. It was only in that last few months -- remember the days of ilovebags?

Would 3 out of 8 be more paletable? What if we ran special auctions mid-week (like a diva your dude or diva your daughter ...would you have a problem if we opened those up to everyone (even those who would be subject to win limits)?

    thanks much!

I still think 2 max per week. Any more than that and I really start getting discouraged. I'm glad you're taking feedback and for this reason I'll keep using your site but I'll wait until the limits are in place before continuing to bid

3 of 8 is not bad. Its all your call, you just need to have something in place before you need it. If you notice PP lost almost all their early customers when they got so popular, you rarely see one of the original 10 or so winners even bidding on anything now, much less winning. schliefinc won their 22nd auction and by the end of that week when she had won 3 a lot of us were asking for bid limits. The 22-27th auctions are still pretty early in the game.

LOL! As soon as the auction ended tonight, I said "I think we should send angelducky something - maybe that small cole haan makeup bag we have..." Everyone laughed at me!

We will make our decision by Sunday and annouce with a newsletter to all users. Thanks so much for the feedback - you all are pretty darn cool - if you're ever in So. Florida, we'll have to have coffee!

LOL you are sweet, I knew you had a compassionate heart when you committed half your money to make a wish from day one. You're not even making any money yet, you're losing money and you still donate half of what you get on bids? Thats pretty incredible and I hope you are wildly successful with this site. You are off to a better start than PP got and look at them now. Remember that if you ever get discouraged.

South Florida is a pretty nice place to be....my daughter is up in Jacksonville for the ****tail party this weekend. Say a prayer for her. And me. LOL.

Hey...I was censored! I didn't say anything bad, just used the nickname for the UGA/Florida football game. Didn't want anyone to think I was being obscene.

Default Site Update & Win Limits

    All:

We are excited to announce that we are moving to a dedicated server tonight! Hopefully, this will eliminate most of the lag-time problems we've seen over the past week. For the moment, the site is down. And, our emails are not working, so if you need anything, please reach out through this thread. We will be up and running before the morning. Thank you for your patience.

Regarding win limits: Effective Monday, each user will be subject to a 2 win limit in any 7 day period. The win limit will not apply to the following auction types: Diva Your Dude, Diva Your Daughter, Diva Your Dog, Thousand Dollar Thursdays, DivaDime Bundles, and Glam Bucks. We think this is fair given the amount of auctions we will be running in these early days. At the moment, we plan on running 1 auction per day, with 2 on Sunday, for a total of 8 auctions. Only 1 of the 8 auctions is excluded from the win limits (Thousand Dollar Thursdays).

As our business grows, we will continue to evaluate our win limits.

    Glam On!

Hey Traci I don't know if its just my browser or what but when i clicked on checkout for a bid pack it takes me to a blank green screen that looks like this:
and it doesn't go on thru to paypal or google checkout, I tried both. I had purchased a few bids the other day so I still have a few but I wanted to buy a larger pack to make sure I have enough for this weeks auctions. Is it because you are working on the server or what?

Poor eshopper you just can't catch a break trying to buy bid packs can you? I'll give teh process a try even though I don't need more bids and just cancel before the sale goes through. I'll let you know if I see it too.

Same thing happened to me. I'm sending you a video Traci because you'll also see an annoying little problem. The first time I log into dime-divas in FireFox, it logs me in fine. But when I go to the screen to see auctions, you'll notice that it tells me I'm not yet logged in. After I go through teh log in process again, everything works fine. It's not a huge glitch just annoying.

Anyway you'll also see the behavior eshopper just mentioned where I try to buy a bid pack and get a green screen.

if anything were to break, that's the worst thing :-\
I'm looking into it right now.
Hopefully it'll be sorted out in the next few minutes.

Heehee only if its buying a bid pack mid-auction on PP that I end up losing my butt on. Funny how I never have any trouble buying bids at those times!

That was my thinking too, Angel. This is the first site I've ever bought (or tried to buy) a large bid pack from without knowing or hearing from any previous winners. I was only going to buy a few at first but I see several things coming up that I want and they seem trustworthy so I'm diving right in. As soon as they get the thing fixed.

    I am trustworthy

Anywho, a GIGANTIC THANK YOU to both of you for helping out with this issue. I just wanted to let you know that to the best of my ability I have finally sorted out what the problem was.
Apparently the new server did not have an encryption method that is used by the script, but I installed it, restarted the server and BLAMO! it worked!

Just in the nick of time.
    Travis

PS I have given each of you two some glam bucks as a thank you for helping out with this issue :D

    ME TOO!

Also, because I was doing this all day I didn't have time to fig'r out the win limits, so the newsletter says they go into effect tomorrow.
I will hopefully have it done by then or else i will do them by hand.

Have I told you lately that I love you...LOL!

Thanks for trusting us. It means a ton. Now, if only Fortime would send in a testimonial, all would be right with the world. If someone we knew was winning, you know we'd have something up by now!

Same goes for me. I normally back off and wait to buy bid packs like I did for your site because I've gotten burned in the past with blowing my money. I'm not sure if I'll be bidding tonight but there are a couple coming up I'm interested in. I'll watch tonight for sure though

I am so excited! Its been so long since I've won anything and to win 2 things in one day is a good feeling. Woohoo! Can't wait to get it and you know I'll be in here vouching for you as soon as it arrives. Good luck with resolving your issue. Oh and I like the timer, I just have to get used to placing my bid earlier than I usually do but I obviously don't have any complaints.

For everyone who tries to get a Coach on PennyPurses, one of the listings is a Coach that's also been up on PennyPurses and you might have better luck on Dime-Divas.

You will. I have no idea why but penny auction players love coach more than anything. If I were trying to make a go of it in penny auction land I would have nothing but Coach signature items until I got on my feet, and even then I'd still have it pretty often!
