Have You Bid on SellOffAuctions.com?

Update 6:35 PM EST 11/6/10: After publishing this more research was done. Take a look at the results of a very interesting (in my opinion) Google search:

And also, Now 1007520 stated winners as of this update –

What have your experiences been with penny auction site SelloffAuctions.com?

Upon first arriving on SelloffAuctions.com a news segment on police auction site, PropertyRoom.com plays:

Under “How it Works,” of the homepage, it states that they buy from warehouse clearance and overstock surplus.

What is most interesting is that it seems as if the winner’s ticker on their winners page and homepage has increased dramatically over the past few minutes:

805819 winners; money saved so far: $332,030.59 at 3:49 CST, 11/6/2010 to 815623 winners & $336,155.25 money saved so far at 3:58 pm 11/6/2010, to 835,870 winners so far, $344,473.93 at  4:11 pm; so from 3:49 pm to 4:11 pm. That’s about 30,051 winners in less than 15 minutes! 4:58 pm cst: $370,768.50, 899454

From approx. 4:11 pm cst to 4:58 pm cst, today, 11/6/2010, I observed the ticker show an increase of 93,635 winners. However, I could not find any auctions actually currently going on to observe this on the pre-login page, what appears to be the next item to end on the frontpage  shows 34:13:07 left on the clock. Not sure why this could be ?

In SelloffAuctions.com’s Official Blog we found an article “Spam – The Wrong Way To Market Your Business” that has also been posted on the following websites, according to Google: www.terramarketingnews.com/, www.terramarketingevents.com/.

Then, SellOff-Auctions.com displays the following address: TRUE NET MEDIA LTD 72 HIGH STREET HASLEMERE SURREY GU 27 2LA The same address as “http://www.SwipeAuctions.com”‘s Circle Media Bids LTD.

Also interesting, in Google when searching “SellOffAuctions,” the site appears to also be coming up under the domain name: GlobalDegreeOnline.com:

When asking where the company was located in the live chat, they said:

“Fabia: For security and privacy reasons, we are unable to disclose our exact address, but I will confirm for you that we are based  in the United States.”

Also, according to their live chat, bids are charged in a starter pack for $179

“Ronnie: SellOffAuctions.com has a onetime charge of only $179.00 for the SellOffAuctions Starter Bid Pack of 250 bids. The full amount is processed upon signing upand as stated, 250 bids @ .72 cents each are deposited to your account upon signing up to allow you immediate access to the bidding site.”

Maybe you along know about the matter. Sexual dysfunction can be a result of a physical condition. Even when it has a physical cause, psychological problems can make the disorder worse. Sex drive problems are so commonly a product of how you feel that there is something to that “headache” saying after all.

I don’t understand. Isn’t writing this like throwing gas on a fire? Surely you should be saving articles like this for use in your upcoming lawsuit.

But hey, what do I know.

I don’t see how this has any relation to my lawsuit, I just watch and report on the penny auction industry and a site that says they now say theyve had over 1 million ended auctions since last night but I don’t see a history of this, I find it interesting…

Wait a second, are you implying a relation between the two sites? I don’t know this is an entirely different site.

Thanks for posting this, I’m a penny auction newbie and haven’t figured out the scam sites as yet, which selloffauctions apparently is. I registsered yesterday at selloffauctions, and provided the wrong billing address by accident. I continued to bid and “win” and “buy” things, however. I went to my bank account website last night, and it just so happened that there was a technical glitch at Chase and so my credit card had not registered the charges. When I went to selloffauctions this afternoon, to check on my “bids” and claim my “winnings,” I was told that my credit card had been declined, and realized I had entered my shipping address as my billing address. Thinking it was odd that last night I had been able to “purchase” things I had “won” while my bank’s site was down, I went back to Chase’s site before entering the correct billing address. Chase’s website – which is now working – did not show any charges from selloffauctions, thankfully, but charges from another penny auction site which I believe is legit – bidrivals – did. Obviously, selloffauctions is a SCAM.

I can confirm that it is indeed Jesse’s website. He had to close SwipeAuctions because the banks did not want to work with him.

    Hello,

I must re-iterate that SellOffAuctions.com has nothing to do with Jesse Willms or swipeauctions/swipebids. When SellOffAuctions.com began development several months ago, swipebids was one of the top penny auction sites, so several parts of our site were modeled very closely to theirs to cut down on development time and costs.

It is unfortunate that pennyauctionwatch.com is trying to insinuate that SellOffAuctions.com is one and the same as the Swipe offers; we will likely be serving them with a C&D to stop this before they get out of hand and cause some real damage to our business.

    Regards,

    Curtis

I didn’t insinuate or state that Selloffauctions.com is one and the same as Swipe– as you suggest? ??? Modeled very closely, is that copyright infringement? Why was their name on your site in Google cache? In my opinion, this is very interesting.

      @Curtis –

Could you please explain to interested PAW readers why selloffauctions and swipeauctions share the same Edgecastcdn.com account?

Oh, and will that C&D be coming from Karl Kronenberg or Jared Sechrist?

Hello Amanda, It’s very good to see you back and reporting penny auctions issues as before. Very interesting reply from Aff Marketing 212 about your recent review here about the new penny auction SellOffAuctions.com. I do not wish to insinuate or state that Selloffauctions.com is one and the same as the Swipes sites either, but would state my opinion that there are so many similarities in the operation and marketing of both sites that if they do not have the same ownership there should indeed be a lawsuit pending for copyright infringement. I further noticed that SellOffAuctions.com has backed off on the laughable claim of savings and number of winners to a more reasonable:

money saved so far – $162,125.59
total winners so far – 42,852

These figures are down greatly from what was posted just yesterday. I understand that this is a new site and is bound to have glitches, but those were big ones! I still wonder how they can claim 42852 winners in such a short time of operation and so few live auctions showing on main page.

This site is a scam.. I thought I was registering, but found out that they charged me $179.00 for the pleasure. The auctions are non existant. My bank hasn’t the balls to deny the charge when I complained to them.

    Beware!

i dont know that you should be calling them a scam based on the charge, because they disclose that once you enter your card info you will be charged. this is text in addition to the left hand side bid pack text. its interesting that their live chat has some of the same responses as the swipe site did…

i signed up for this site, selloffauctions, thinking it was like ebay. You bid and if you won you paid for the item. Not so here. They charged me $500.00 for 1500 bids. I immediately contacted a live agent and he informed me there were no refunds and I should have read the terms and conditions.

Went to bank and canceled card but the charge went through anyway.

Then if you win an item, you have to pay them whatever the winning bid was plus shipping and handling.

Too late for me but if someone does research on them BEFORE they click let this be a warning.

    Run. Run. Run.

Don’t sign up. The site will immediately charge $179 on your credit card without a clear notice and no refund. $179 will give you 350 bids, which equal to pathetic $3.50 bidding power in an auction. It will run out in the blink of an eye.

I got ripped off the same as Brian. When I signed up there was no red writing stating the charge. I have a screen shot. I clicked continue thinking that I would be taken to another page to continue filling out registration info and instead saw that I was being charged with no way to stop it.

When I contacted support, the guy in live chat linked me a page that did have the red writing. I told him that it was different from the page I signed up on and he said they still would not issue a refund.

On top of all that, once you log in there are no auctions to bid on. Even if I did want to keep my unwanted credits and put them to use since I am stuck with them anyway, there is no way to do so. The pre-login page still shows auctions pending, but once you log in and click all auctions there is nothing there.

This site is a complete scam.

I signed up last night. I thought I was just registering. I made a mistake, everyone makes mistakes. This guy tricks you into this and then for some reason feels he’s earned the right to keep your money and the truth is he hasn’t. There is no refund they say this is clearly stated but I did not even notice it. There’s a way to create graphics and place text in a manner for it to lead your attention more towards one thing than another. I think they did a good study on this because it’s obvious there are a lot of complaints regarding this issue. At the bottom the big button said Continue not Pay Now. Right above in small red letters it does say they are charging you. Funny thing was how I did not even notice this. I had no idea that was there. Later they presented an image showing this to me. I wondered how could I have missed this. Obviously I’m not the only one.

I reported it within the moment when the next page stated I had just made a payment.

I posted my experience also at ripoffreport. There are a few complaints there posted within days of each other. I figure he’s taking in at least a few people everyday. When inside most slots for products that were being sold were batches of their own bids they are selling themselves. You can get another maybe 100 there for possibly just over $1

Today I was charged $179 for being under the impression that I was just signing up. I contacted customer support and they said that there are no refunds and showed me a picture of the small print that designated the charge statement at the bottom of the form. There is no clear statement to convey that the consumer is agreeing to that charge immediately upon clicking the continue button. This is pretty atypical for websites or businesses for usually there is a statement of terms in the registration area. Therefore, it can be very misleading. The high frequency of such complaints and their reluctance to reverse charges clearly suggests that this “business” have done their research on how to manipulate consumers.

Interesting press release just posted today: http://www.pr.com/press-release/273114
I thought it had already launched & they already changed corporate info?

Brett Callister Prepares to Launch New Penny Auction Site Sell Off Auctions

Company CEO of Sell Off Auctions, Brett Callister, introduces himself and discusses his new penny auction site.

Miami, FL, November 17, 2010 –(PR.com)– Canadian businessman, Brett Callister, is entering the penny auction marketplace with a new site called Sell Off Auctions, he announced today.

“Penny auction sites are the wave of the future,” Callister said. “People like bargains, but they also like to have fun while they save money. That’s why people are flocking to penny auction sites in droves.”

Callister has been working as an executive in the Internet marketing industry for several years, but this is the first time he will act as the CEO of a major new online company. Penny auction sites have been around for roughly two years but have only become a major force in the industry in the past six months. In a penny auction site, a consumer pays a membership fee and then buys bids he or she can spend on auctions for consumer goods. Every time someone uses a bid, the price of the item goes up by a penny, and extra time is added to the auction clock. Whoever places the final bid gets to purchase the item at the final price at the end of the auction. The price is usually well under the regular retail value of the product.

“What I like about penny auctions is that it incorporates an element of skill into the shopping experience,” Callister said. “Consumers compete against each other for value which makes everything more fun.”

At this point Callister and his team are still working out exactly what items will be made available on Sell Off Auctions and finishing up the final site design and marketing materials. “At first we plan to focus on popular consumer goods,” Callister said. “Obviously we will be doing a lot of split testing and over time may introduce other types of products and expand our overall marketplace.”

Callister said his focus will be on providing the best customer service possible in the penny auction industry. “We are building an online live chat system where people will be able to get answers to their questions and concerns about the site 24 hours a day, seven days a week, right from their home computers,” Callister said. “We feel this is a great way to start our customer service initiative.”

All of the products offered by Sell Off Auctions will be brand new and shipped directly to the consumer’s home.“People are tired of buying used goods from shady third party sellers,” Callister said. “They are ready for the real value of a site like Sell Off Auctions.”

Amanda, it’s another day, and with it another piece of PR magic from that same group of fiction writers. This time they are reporting from New York and present information to conflict with the press release of the previous day.

    http://www.pr.com/press-release/278024
Sell Off Auctions Says They Are Growing Faster Than They Ever Expected

1 / “New York, NY, November 18, 2010 –(PR.com)– While still a newcomer in the penny auction game, Sell Off Auctions says they are very happy that their customer growth has exceeded their expectations.”

2 / “Launched just two months ago, Sell Off Auctions already has more than 2,000 registered users and lots of winners who have had the chance to save up to 70 percent off the price of popular consumer goods.”

3 / “Sell Off Auctions officials said they think one of the best draws to their penny auction site is the large amount of popular products available including Cannon EOS Rebel cameras, Nintendo Wiis, Sony Home Theater Systems and Apple MacBook Pros.”

    I question these claims:

1 / Customer growth published figures continue to fluctuate but generally show a steep downward trend from early November. Were the early figures ficticious?

2 / As seen in quote: “2,000 registered users” is no where near the claim of over “10,000 happy users” as viewed in banner and borders on this web site prior to Nov 15, 2010.

3 / SellOffAuctions is using the same lineup of “popular products” as SwipeAuctions.com displayed on October 31, 2010 just prior to going out of business with very few exceptions. I consider all the gift cards as being one unit in this list. Those products did not number more than 15, which does not idicate to me, a wide selection or quantity.

It is no wonder that SellOffAuctions hide this lineup of active auction items from the general public when timers on many of their products entering the auction area for bidding show more than 80 hours before closing.

Lastly, do these people believe that claiming over and over again that charging membership fees is normal for all penny auctions will make it a fact? The facts, as I know them, are that SwipeBids.com originated this practice of charging huge amounts and then refusing to refund. My thoughts are that, if you encounter any penny auction that states a membership fee is required it is a clear indication of scam and keep your credit card information out these peoples forms.

I became a member of the selloffauctions.com groupies on 11/6/2010. I was able to purchase bid packs until 11/14/2010, but after that my credit card was declined. Bank said there was no problem with my card. I was still able to bid until I won my first major auction on 11/16/2010. Since then the site has been closed to me in every way except to bid on bid packs which I still can not pay for. That seems a little useless to me. I was told to check back in 48 hours. In 48 hours I was told to check back in 48 hours. And so on and so on, until 11/26/2010 I was assured that the site would be up and running on 12/1/2010. It is now 12/2/2010 and no auctions are available to me. Nor am I able to pay for my won items. Am I the only one unable to pay for or bid on anything?

According to this article in PR Web, you can request a Customer Satisfaction Refund. When I contacted them through their so called “Live Chat” to get the information as to where to send the request to, they wouldn’t give it to me.

    SellOfAuctions.com is a definite scam!

Like many others, I made the mistake of responding to their Facebook ad., arrived at their site, registered, and stupidly gave them my debit card, thinking this would be stored in the system for me to start bidding. There was absolutely nothing displayed during my registration process to indicate that I would be charged $179.00. On top of that I never got any correspondence from them, neither for creating an account, nor the fact that they just charged me the initial $179.00 fee. It was only through their live support that I discovered that they charged me this fee for the courtesy of 250 bids. I told the live support person that this was b.s., and that I want a refund. At which point the support person told me that they don’t refund, and that he will not provide any further help on the issue.

Luckily, my story has a happy ending. Realizing that I had been ripped off, I filed a complaint to the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org), the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (http://www.ic3.gov), and for good measure sent an email to the State District Attourney’s office in Kentucky (as the registrar info showed a KY address). After about a month, I was quite delighted when i got an email from by local BBB showing that they had filed a complaint to this organization, the email also showed the organization’s response to my BBB complaint. They indicated that they sent me a refund check. And a week later I got what looks like a personal check for $179.00 without any notes or comments on it. I immediately ran to the bank and deposited the refund check.

So my advice to others who had a problem with this site is to file a complaint with their local Better Business Bureau.
