We recently had the pleasure of interviewing the director of BidOutfitters.com, Johnny Capitelli. BidOutfitters.com is a penny auction site based in Canada that is geared towards lovers of the great outdoors, offering outfitting gear and unique experiences.

Penny Auction Watch: On BidOutfitters.com I noticed that you provide a few items that are unique to penny auctions, in particular, different types of experiences and outfitting gear. Can you tell us more about your items?
BidOutfitters: Our offerings are unique for a penny auction. Much like the penny auction itself, our gifts are all about the experience. Imagine that adventure you never thought you could afford along with the equipment you need. The perfect Valentines gift.. ½ or full day dog sledding, Winter Segway tour, Hummer tour and cottage give aways.. all offered through our partner vendors.

Penny Auction Watch: What inspired you to launch BidOutfitters.com?
BidOutfitters: I guess I can say a tale of two loves 1.) My love for the outdoors and 2.) my love to promote the products and services of smaller tourist operators and vendors through the excitement of a competitive auction.
Penny Auction Watch: How did you come across penny auctions?
BidOutfitters: Came across them in 2010, while looking for something unique to help promote tourism and outdoor products. Combining that with my IT background, I knew the penny auction experience was a perfect match.
Penny Auction Watch: When did you launch?
BidOufitters: We launched our membership or ‘pre launch phase’ just before Christmas. Our goal was to interest like minded penny auctioners and get them use to the site while building the membership base.
This is being done before we start with greater adventures, larger ticket items and a greater number of auctions.
Having seen what illegitimate sites have done to our industry it was very important that the site be legitimate, build on sound financial footing and that we remain transparent to our membership. Check our press blog and you can see what we mean.
Penny Auction Watch: Where are you located and where do you ship to?
BidOutfitters: We are located just outside Toronto. Canada, true to our country roots in the community of Mount Albert, Ontario. Items are either shipped from our shop or drop shipped by our partner vendors. Currently, we ship anywhere in North America.
Penny Auction Watch: What do bids on your BidOutfitters cost?
BidOutfitters: Bids cost 60 cents, with bonus additional bids awarded depending on the size of bid pack purchased.
Here is a quick recap on our bids; you buy them to bid on auctions at .60cents per bid, any bids you use in an auction (that you paid for) will be applied as a bidding rebate towards the `buy now` price of the auction you were bidding on (if you don`t win).
The bidding rebate works as follows; if you bought the bids and they were not awarded to you for free or as a bonus, you will receive a bidding rebate as you bid (you have to be in detailed view of the auction) bid once and you will see a discount of 60 cents, bid twice and you will see your bidding rebate climb to -$1.20 and as you bid it will increase as you would expect.
The only time you do not receive a bidding discount is if you do not pay for the bids and they were awarded to you for free or as bonus for purchasing a large bidpack.
