BidPigs.com is a new penny auction site, read our interview with BidPigs’ owners:
What got you interested in the entertainment shopping industry?
BidPigs: Initially we discovered the penny auction phenomenon when we saw a commercial for a site on television during a football game. We had never even heard of the term before, and it looked interesting, so we checked it out. After about a week of watching, we dove in and bought a bid package. We didn’t win a thing, but had a great time! We were hooked.
What makes your penny auction site unique?
BidPigs: Our site has a very unique idea, which is completely dedicated to a “pig” theme. We intend to incorporate fun pig characters, phrases and expressions into everything that we do. We think that this coupled with the basic penny auction concept make the site a snout’rageous shopping experience!
We have been testing and designing the site for the past several weeks. The site design will be continually updated and new ideas will be added all the time. We are officially “open” as of now, with our first auctions set to end on Friday, February 19th.
What kind of items do you have lined up? Will your auctions run on a schedule?
BidPigs: We have our whole first week of auctions listed on the site, and running at this time. The items that are posted include; Red Lobster card, Subway card, Starbucks card, Ipod Shuffle, Wii accessory pack, board games and more. We will be adding new items all the time, and intend to offer all of the popular retail items, as we progress.
Most of our auctions will be started and run without any set scheduling. At this time most of the “earliest end times” will be in the evenings.
We will also be having auctions in the near future that we are calling lunch auctions. These will run for ½ hour increments at lunch time and then pause to allow users with limited time to play on our site.
What are the timer increments between bids/does this vary by auction?
BidPigs: Currently the timer increase/reset on our site is 15 seconds. The reset only occurs at this point when auction timers go below 2 minutes. There is also a cap in place that prevents our timers from going back above 2 minutes once they count down to below 2 minutes.
We do anticipate making different timer increases in the future, which will likely include 10 seconds and perhaps 30 seconds. All timer changes will be clearly listed in the auctions, or defined by specific icons.
How much are your bids?
BidPigs: We currently have 4 bid packages at BidPigs. The packages start at $0.67 per bid and range to $0.50 per bid based on the bid packages. The more of a hog you are, the better your reward!
What are your shipping costs?
BidPigs: Since we are relatively new to this, we are still very much experimenting with this fee. The best answer that we can give for this is that each item will have the shipping fee clearly posted in two areas. You can view the shipping price right under the current bid price on an items main page, and you can also find the shipping fee at the bottom of the item details section.
Are there any win limits, limits /household?
BidPigs: We do have win limits at BidPigs to ensure that everyone gets in on the fun! Our win limits can be made to vary by product category. The current win limits for all categories is 2/day, 5/wk and 12/mth. These limits can be viewed in the profile pages of each user so that you can check to make sure you can play daily.
Is there a story behind the name/theme?
BidPigs: The Baconology behind the name and theme of the site actually began when we were still in the cute little pink piglet stage of site development. We wanted to go with something animal related that would allow us to develop characters and catch phrases to enhance. We tried out several other ideas and then settled on the BidPigs theme. We feel that we have hit a real bovine bonanza with the characters that are here now, and the soon to be added characters and slogans.
