What got you interested in the penny auction business?
From the first day I saw Bidz.com, I loved the concept and bought PennyAuction.ca right away knowing, well hoping, that one day I would have the time to develop it into a great Penny Auction site, and now here we are. In the last 4 months I saw many penny auction sites popping up all over the place, so I decided to start doing more research. After finding PennyAuctionWatch.com and reading about the ups and downs of running a penny auction business, we decided to go for it.
Our bids:
Bids at PennyAuction.ca are 50 cents and you receive 3 free bids upon sign up.
Our Items:
Since we are a brand new site, we will be starting with gift cards such as Starbucks, Tim Hortons, Best Buy, Future Shop, Home Depot, and many others with the option to exchange a won gift card to another one of the same value. We also have a cash prize with instant delivery to our user’s Paypal account. We will be having one electronic item every 1 to 2 days including the famous iPod Shuffle, cameras, and USB storage drives. As we grow will be offering more and bigger items including the iPad, plasma TVs, flat screen monitors, and laptops. We are also looking into getting into niches like domain names, antiques, art, and sporting items such as those for fishing, camping, mountain climbing, kayaking, and so on.
Our Features:
BIN: Most items will include a Buy It Now option that makes it risk free to bid on the items you really want. Most small items auction will be set as a “Nail Biter” auction with no bid butler. Many items will have a cash value in case a user from the US gets an item that is only available to Canadian users or even just if the user prefers cash sent to PayPal.
Bid Butler: We have set the auto bidder to start when 1 minute is remaining in the auction. (See what we are working on below!)
Bid Refund: Purchased bids are fully refundable via PayPal if a user decides not to use our site anymore. A refund can be initiated by contacting us.
Our Win Limit: Our win limit is set to 8 per month. We will add a daily win limit if we find it necessary.
The Shipping: Shipping on most items will be FREE and all shipping information will be included on the product detail page.
What we are working on:
- 1. We are in the process of translating the site into French for our French-Canadian friends. There will be items that can only be found in Quebec.
- 2. We are developing the Bid Butler so that you can set it to start whenever you like from right away to the last 10 seconds of the auction.
- 3. We are changing our “View All Auctions” section so that all the auctions can be seen without having to change pages.
4. We are adding the blind auction feature.
Support:
We offer phone support from 10am to 8pm Monday to Friday Pacific time but you can call anytime and leave a message; we will respond to all inquiry calls as soon as possible. Users can also request a call-back via our contact form, saving them the long distance call.
We also offer email support and will be responding to every email as it comes. Just like everybody else, we don’t like to wait for support and will make sure our users don’t have to wait for anything – including their won items.
Please don’t expect us to monitor the forums to answer your questions; support is done via our contact page on the website.

As much as I hate to say it, we have to take a day or so to figure the problem with the counter. Everything was working great until we added the ssl certificate and changed a few little things. We tested the auction and it will create problems at the last seconds so we better pause it and fix it well. All bid placed will be added back to you account.
I'll keep every body updated.
