Could There Be a Shill Bidder on BittyBidz? UPDATED with Explanation from BityBidz!

Have you ever bid on BittyBidz.com/.net? (BittyBidz.com has recently merged/is merging to BittyBidz.net). BittyBidz is a penny auction site that launched in late April of this year, many of our forum members have bid there and won items.

To those of you who have bid on BittyBidz: Did you ever bid against the user JLANDSO? Well, we know that a few Penny Auction Watch forum members have, little did they know that this bidder may very well be a BittyBidz company shill.

BittyBidz’ joined our forum under the username “bittybidzLLC,” two other users also joined our forum with the very same IP address as bittybidzLLC, they are: Darkelf9 and Jlandso.

BittyBidzLLC joined our forum on June 9th, Darkelf9 on May 22nd, and jlandso on May 30th,

This shows that all three users have the same IP address: [click to enlarge screenshots]

So we started checking into the other users that BittybizLLC had on our forum, first to see what darkelf9 had posted about BittyBidz, here’s what they had to say:

Please take a look at this site. They have many things to offer including tv’s, gift cards, game systems, etc.

DarkElf9 posted with the very same IP address that bittybidzLLC posts under, meaning they share the same Internet connection, yet DarkElf9 referred to BittyBidz as “they” and not “we.”

Next, we noticed that Jlandso hadn’t posted on our forum, so we went over to Google and searched Jlandso + BittyBidz, we found Jlandso bidding on multiple BittyBidz.com auctions, so wondering whether or not BittyBidz allowed their employees to bid on their site we went over and took a look at their terms & conditions:

“BittyBidz employees are not eligible to participate in Auctions,” yet someone with their same IP address has been. We went and took a look at nearly all of BittyBidz’ ended auctions, the full bid history wasn’t displayed on ended auctions just the last 10 bids, here’s what we found:

At first we wondered if some of the auctions with Jlandso could have been test auctions, well, that was before we found that Jlandso had bid against Penny Auction Watch forum members, and before we found BittyBidz’ Twitter page where we found BittyBidz announcing that Jlandso had won at least 3 auctions.

Interesting, TESTTEST bid on multiple auctions including auction id 495 for a test auction, end price: 999.30, “TEST AUCTION DO NOT BID ON” Yet the other auctions testiest bid on the auctions  test was not specified..

There were many other auctions with usernames that seemed odd and unfamiliar, keep in mind this does not suggest that just because the users have usernames unfamiliar to the penny auction community that they are shill bidders but we did observe some odd patterns, and for now we decided to just focus on the user Jlandso because Jlandso had the very same IP address as Penny Auction Watch forum member BittyBidzLLC.

This isn’t the first time we’ve found a forum user with the same IP address as a site owner/employee, and unfortunately we don’t think this will be the last.
