Penny Auction Watch: What got you interested in the entertainment shopping industry?

AreaBids: My dream was to create a full featured online poker site. Yes, I am still working on the software for this site. I had hoped that it would be legal in the US by now. It is not likely to become legal any time soon.

Then I ran across a penny auction site in the early part of 2011 and never looked back. I instantly knew that I could write the software for it. Worked on it for all of 2012. AreaBids is born.

Penny Auction Watch: How long has AreaBids been open?

AreaBids: We went live on Jan 11, 2013. Some members from PAW have already signed up.

Penny Auction Watch: Can you tell us about some of the items that you offer/have lined up? Do your auctions run on a schedule?

AreaBids: At this time, we are offering all quality gift cards. The retail price we set for an auction is the exact price we pay. We promise never to inflate the retail price and we make it easy for our members to know the value of what they are bidding on.

Penny Auction Watch: What are the timer increments between bids and does this vary by auction?

AreaBids: AreaBids is a traditional penny auction site. All auction timers run to 15 second. Once below 15 seconds and someone bids, the clock will reset back to 15 seconds.

Penny Auction Watch: How much are your bids?

AreaBids: All bids are 25 cents whether you buy 40 bids or 2500 bids. We treat all members the same.

Penny Auction Watch: What are your shipping costs? How long does it usually take for users to receive their items?

AreaBids: All shipping is free and always will be free. We only make money by our members bidding on an auction. Delivery time is 2 to 5 days. All e-cards are 10 minutes to 12 hours.

Penny Auction Watch: What states/countries are you open to?

AreaBids: At this time, only U.S. residence can bid on AreaBids. We are working to allow Canadian residence soon.

Penny Auction Watch: Is there anything else that you would like to share with Penny Auction Watch readers?

AreaBids: Yes, we know that we have to earn your trust…
24/7 Phone Support. Yep! This is not a typo. You can call us any time for any reason and get a live person based in the United States.

Refund Policy.

You will always be able to receive a refund for any unused bids for any reason except for the 20 free bids you received when you first sign up. All paid bids, referral bids, bid packs won at auction are all refundable, and we will not ask you to close your account! Your bids belong to you “not us” until you spend them.

Total Transparency. One big way for us to earn your trust is to be open and honest about every aspect of AreaBids as possible.

How many times have you gone to a penny auction site and paid .65 per bid only to find out that other bidders only paid .12 per bid or even free bids? We feel that all bidders should have an equal vested stake in any auction. No favoritism. Only new members and for referrals get 20 free bids. Visit AreaBids.com. You just might be surprized.
