SpaceAntiques.ca, the Canada based penny auction, has now opened SpaceAntiques.com to serve US bidders, they tell us that they don’t charge shipping. Read our interview with the SpaceAntiques Penny Auction team:
What is the story behind SpaceAntiques? What got you into interested into entertainment shopping?
SpaceAntiques: Actually we, as a group, came together at different moments during the last 2 years. First, Robert, a young immigrant from Poland in 2008, introduced the penny auction concept to his friends Marek and Dariusz who were working in the dry cleaning business at the time. They all fell in love with the idea and in early 2009 began to develop the site part time. During the development phase they met Andy, a jobless young professional that was looking to change his life and pursue his entrepreneurial spirit. Together they created E-nnovation Entertainment Inc and SpaceAntiques was finally born and launched in Canada on March 9th 2010.

Why are you expanding to the U.S.?
SpaceAntiques: Since we opened we have received many emails from American players wanting to register. It is a natural expansion. We believe that the U.S. market will be very welcoming to a site like ours, and has many experienced players who will appreciate our operation.
What makes your penny auction site unique?
SpaceAntiques: First our brand is very unique and distinct in the industry. Secondly we obtained a government grant to create our site from scratch and we developed a cutting edge technology that, we believe, is one of the most advanced auction systems in the world. We also have an innovative bidding assistant tool named the “SpaceBidder” that dramatically adds to the entertainment factor and strategies on our site. Lastly, we believe that our customer service is top tier and can compete with the best sites out there.. AND starting this week we have NO SHIPPING costs!
What kind of items do you have lined up? Will your auctions run on a schedule?
SpaceAntiques: Our first week is already on the site. Some of the items posted include; Ipod Shuffle Special edition, Dell netbook, and IPAD. We will be adding new items all the time, and intend to always offer many top brand products. Since we are not a new operation, you can check out our finished auctions to see some of the products we already offered.
Starting this week we will have 3 daytime auctions and 3 evening auctions. None of our auctions are paused.
What are the timer increments between bids/does this vary by auction?
SpaceAntiques: Currently the timer increase/reset on our site is 15 seconds. We do anticipate making different timer increases in the future and the description of the different auction types is already documented in our help section. All timer changes as well as auction types will be clearly listed in the auctions, or defined by specific icons.
How much are your bids?
SpaceAntiques: Our most popular Bids Packs range from $0.80 to $0.65 per bid.
What are your shipping costs?
SpaceAntiques: none, shipping is free!
Are there any win limits, limits /household?
SpaceAntiques: The current user win limit is set at 9/ per 30 day period. Each user can view their limits in their “my won auctions” section.
Is there a story behind the name/theme?
SpaceAntiques: We tried out several other ideas and finally picked SpaceAntiques. Our lawyer actually helped us out to create our brand and the “Alien Junk, Human Joy” theme. We feel we can build on this branding and explore new innovative ideas that will transform the shopping experience for many years to come. Our dedication to innovation and new technology is surely going to make the experience on our site out of this world!
