If you know anything about me personally, you know that I absolutely love to travel.
I’ve been blessed with the ability to visit so many wonderful places over the past few years. My favorites so far are Colombia for the amazing hiking in the foothills of the Andes, St. Maarten for Orient Beach, Guatemala for the handicrafts, Prague for the architecture, Japan for the cherry blossoms and because it’s super hip, Spain for the amazing vegetarian food, Hawaii for the island life. (The photo above was taken by me on my flight leaving Honolulu.) “Traveling is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.” I believe it.
So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I LOVE penny auctions for travel.
I really miss OffAndAway! It was an amazing penny auction site for highly rated hotels/resorts, suites included. I stayed in a stunning penthouse suite in Chicago way back when that site was around. Ah, the memories!
This brings me to the newest penny auction site for travel, and while I can’t bid on the site, since I’m US based, I still wanted to share this one with my UK readers here!

GetAwayAnywhere:Airfare for Under $1? It’s Possible, New UK Penny Auction for Travel launched about 6 months ago, it’s a bidding site offering deals on travel experiences and discounts on airfare via their pay-per-bid platform. 
Right now GetAwayAnywhere has been offering two auctions per day, one for a trip or travel experience deal and one for a bid pack.
Current auctions include 50 bidding credits and a trip for two to Venice. Both auctions end today, May 20.
The trip to Venice includes 2 roundtrip tickets from London to Venice, Italy on British Airways on your choice of dates up to a max value of 350 pounds and subject to seat availability.
Check out all of their recent closed auctions, from the looks of it this site still doesn’t seem to have very many bidders. This could mean less competition for you, if you’re a bidder in the United Kingdom who wants to score a deal on an adventure.- 5 pounds – 10 bids
- 10 Pounds – 20 bids + 1 free
- 25 pounds – 50 bids + 5 free
- 50 pounds – 100 bids + 20 free
- 100 pounds – 200 bids + 50 free
So, once you buy a bid pack you have a chance to start bidding to try to win an auction. Bidding and buying tons of bid packs is not a guarantee you will win. You will (most likely) be bidding against other bidders once the auction of your choosing begins, so really – the last man standing is the one who will win when the auction clock hits 0. Penny auctions are very much unlike eBay in that once another bidders places a bid the auction clock gets reset *(usually at 10 seconds)*, and you have to place another bid to reset it again and regain your chance at winning. Sound risky? It can be. Sounds like a waste of time? It can be too, but you can also win big. It really all just depends.
One great thing about this site is that they offer buy-now. This means you can purchase the tickets at the price stated minus the value of the bids that you placed on an auction. Buy-now is only available to the first 20 buyers and for up to 2 hours after the auction has closed, so be sure to take advantage of this.
