CircusPop.com, one of the first reveal/price drop/ Dutch auctions (the penny auction’s cousin) to open in the US, has launched a Facebook app called PennyDrop! With PennyDrop CircusPop now sells popular consumer electronics such as iPods and Nintendo Wii’s, gift cards to retailers including Zappo’s, Home Depot, Sephora, Target & Nike and restaurants from PF Chang’s, Papa Johns & Panera Bread and more right on Facebook.
How do Reveal Price aka Dutch Auctions Work?
- Users purchase credits, on CircusPop, tokens $0.70-$1, each credit gets used to reveal the current price of the item offered
- With each “peek” the price decreases
- Users can purchase items when the price is favorable to them
Today, CircusPop teamed up with one of the fastest growing clothing retailers in the US, Forever 21.
Forever 21 is currently using the PennyDrop app on their Facebook page to sell e-gift cards to their shoppers in the “Fashion Cents Game” and plans to run it until midnight tonight (5/12) PST.
Thousands of shoppers have taken peeks at the gift card prices with the app today, some have received discounts of 35% off on the $25 gift cards.
Over 6,000 Facebook users have tried PennyDrop and it seems to be growing in popularity.
CircusPop is giving back too, so far they’ve loaned $300 to Kiva.org, the micro-lending organization that provides loans to entrepreneurs in third world countries.
